A helping hand... Cyril Fortin

During our residency in Quimper we had daily open rehearsals in the museum. This was for us a unique chance of meeting a public, letting them into the "workshop" of a piano quartet, including mishaps, crazy ideas and fous de rire. On our second day, a man sat for a long time and listened with great attention. By the end of the rehearsal, he introduced himself. It turned out that it was Cyril Fortin, a well known and respected piano restaurer and builder.

Naturally, Charlotte and Cyril had much to discuss in regards of pianos. And, the fortepiano having suffered from a close encounter with Charlotte's four year old daughter, Cyril kindly proposed to do a quick reparation before next day's concert.

The rest of the team looked slightly worried as they saw Cyril take of with the piano's "dentistry", the dampers swingly freely in the air as he walked..

The dentistry - and the repaired damper

But the next day, Cyril was on the spot! The damper had been fixed with great care and just the right glue made from Brittanys famous fish.

And Transhumances Musicales had found a friend, equally fascinated with the richness of different sound aesthetics, answering questions about the piano from the audience with sense of storytelling and patience.
